Policies

Group Attendance: Our groups rely on regular attendance in order for all group members to achieve optimal progress. Whenever a group member is absent, it affects everyone, so please try to be as consistent as possible. We also understand that even when families have a strong commitment to consistent attendance, people get sick or have to miss group for family or other obligations occasionally. When your child/young adult misses group, we are happy to send you the summary as well as the “at home this week” information so that you may review it together.

Session Billing and insurance: Social Skills for Life groups run for the duration of the school year. Sessions begin for the school year in September/October and continue November/December, January/February, March/April and finally May/June.  Billing is concurrent with each session, and payment is due at the beginning of each 2-month session, thus: January 1, March 1, May 1, September 1, and November 1. While we do not file claims for services rendered, we do provide receipts that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Many of our clients receive insurance reimbursement for services.

Payment: Payments may be made by check, cash, PayPal or credit card. To ensure timely payment for services, everyone is required to keep a credit card on file. If payment is not made by the 5th of the month it is due, your credit card on file will be charged, along with the $40 late fee.

Discontinuing Group: Once your child/teen has joined a group, he/she will be enrolled in the next session unless we are notified otherwise. Unlike many social skills groups that use a pre-arranged curriculum, we base our lessons, group activities, and goals for each session on those that are in the group at that particular time. The only way we can plan appropriately for each session is to know ahead of time who, and how many, will be in the group. Additionally, we only allow a certain number of group members in each group, so after the deadline we are saving your spot in group and turning away other potential group members. ***If you wish to discontinue your enrollment in group for the following session, notice is required by the 15th of the month prior to the following session starting (i.e. by October 15, December 15, February 15, April 15). After these deadlines, you are financially responsible for the next session. Withdrawals can only be made for the following session.

Refund Policy: All payments, including deposits, are non-refundable. Refunds will not be given for withdrawals or dismissals after a session has begun. If a group member engages in conduct which is harmful, dangerous, or extremely disruptive to the overall conduct of the program setting or the personnel of Social Skills for Life, we reserve the right to dismiss them from the program without refund.

Cancellation Policy: Please keep in mind that we are reserving your spot in group whether he/she is able to make it or not. When a group member misses a session, make-ups will not be offered, regardless of illness or vacation. Families will not be issued a refund for any missed group dates.

Unexpected Cancellations: When group is cancelled due to situations beyond our control (i.e. weather related cancellations, building repairs, etc.), refunds and credits will not be issued. Sessions may be rescheduled whenever possible.

Inclement weather: In the case of inclement weather, information about whether group is cancelled or not will be sent via email. Please make sure we have your current contact information on file!

Children’s Health: We care deeply about the health and welfare of your child/teen and of everyone in our care. It is our responsibility to safeguard everyone and to do what we can to protect them and prevent the spread of disease.

A group member shall not be allowed to attend group for the day if he or she has had any of the following within the past 24 hours:

  • A temperature over 100 degrees
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • A communicable disease
  • Cold/flu symptoms such as runny and/or stuffy nose, watery eyes, coughing, sneezing, sore throat, fatigue

If a group member develops any of these symptoms while at group, or indicates that he/she is feeling unwell and has had any of the above symptoms the day or night before,  the staff will contact you and ask you to take them home. If you cannot be reached, staff will call your emergency contact to come and pick up your child. No one wants to miss group due to illness, but please keep in mind that there is limited therapeutic benefit if someone isn’t feeling well.
